headandhandHello, Dualizens! Today we are gathered here with a quick and friendly reminder regarding one of the game’s rules. We don’t have many rules here because we’re all adults and we’re here for a good time, but the rules we do have are very important to follow. If you’d like a refresher, the rules page can be found here.
Specifically, we’d like to draw your attention to rule #3, concerning infomodding, powergaming, metagaming - whichever word you prefer, it’s explicitly against the rules. Wikipedia has a nice explanation, and for this game, we also include canon puncture and fourth-walling under this heading. In other words, regardless of who your character is and what their skills and/or abilities are, you must have the other player’s explicit permission for your character to recognize their character, even among canons of similar origin. By “canons of similar origin,” we mean two canons that share a source material but are considered to be placed in different universes. For example, if Rae plays comics-version Bruce Wayne and Koko plays DCTV-version Barry Allen, Rae is not allowed to write Bruce recognizing Barry, either as himself or the Flash, unless Koko agrees that it’s OK to do so. This also extends to characters with previous game experiences with other characters, aka CRAUs.
If you have an overall preference regarding your character’s recognizability to others, canon puncture, fourth-walling, whatever term you prefer - we recommend including a section for this in your required permissions post. Likewise, if you play a character who is, for example, a telepath or a canonical fourth wall breaker, we recommend you include an opt-in/opt-out section for your own permissions post. If you or other players don’t include these in your permissions posts, please make sure to follow the second of the games rules and communicate OOCly with each other.
