event info: an EXPLOSIVE introduction!!
Welcome, new citizens! Welcome to Dualis, your new home for the next year(ish). The Head sincerely hopes you'll enjoy your stay in this lovely city, a true utopia for all inhabitants. Nothing bad at all ever happens in Dualis!
... and if you believe that, you'll believe anything.

On June 17, Dualis will officially open for business and ease all y'all into the mayhem with a celebration - Dualis Days! This is the big city-wide week-long summer kickoff festival, and when we say big, we mean BIG. Street fairs pop up in all the various neighborhoods, with amusement rides, carnival game booths, food and craft vendors ... basically, it's a huge party, and everyone's invited. Many businesses close for the week and employees are given the week off for paid vacation, while those that do stay open pay their employees double their normal wages.
Dualis Days will officially begin at midday on the 17th, when citizens gather in Central Square Park for a rousing kickoff speech from Mayor Marcelina Dubanowski, followed by a colorful, noisy parade - think Mardi Gras on steroids. And as new arrivals to Dualis, it's a given that you'll all be in attendance, right? It's not like you hate fun or anything.
Well, as they say, it's all fun and games until someone gets blown up. This year's parade is halted almost immediately by a fairly large (roll credits) EXPLOSION. Seems that someone planted bombs at the platform for the mayoral speech, and they're timed to go off right around when the parade is scheduled to start. Neat, huh?
There's lots to work with here - if you love angst, get your character injured! If you're the helper type, patch up someone who's been hurt! If you're shady af, take advantage of the chaos to do some crimes!
And if you like solving mysteries? You'll love what happens next.
Right after the initial panic from the explosion sets in, there will be a message broadcast through the entire city from a group claiming responsibility for the attack. The purpose of the attack, beyond targeting the mayor for some pretty extreme violence, is to get the citizens of Dualis to wake the hell up to the lies they've been fed about how great this city is - a plea to pull back the wool that been pushed over your eyes, if you will. Are you intrigued? We sure hope so!
What we'll need is four volunteers from characters who would be inclined to go searching out the source of the broadcast after all this mayhem goes down. (If more than four volunteer, we'll pick via RNG. Don't worry, if you're not picked this time, there will be plenty of opportunities to get in on the action later on!) Any character can investigate ICly, but only these four will actually find anything of note. Mods will be in touch with the players as far as what clues they'll be able to find during their searches, and what we'll need from these intrepid clue-hunters is a collaborative network post for ALL characters to discuss what fresh hell they've found themselves all in. This post will need to go up on June 24.
Despite the big scare, Dualis Days will continue as planned through June 23. There will, however, be an increased police presence throughout the city in the form of the peacekeeper android force known colloquially as Iterations. The Iterations are very obviously robots (see the above icon for the aesthetic we're going for), and they are not afraid to use excessive force. They don't feel pain or pity - their only goal is to keep the peace and subdue any troublemaking entities who are disturbing said peace. Paranoid yet? You should be.
Mods will put a mingle post up for Dualis Days on June 17. If you'd like to throw your character in the pool for clue-hunting RNG, please sign up below by end of the day on June 15. Mods will message players of the chosen characters privately with all the necessary info to make the discussion post on the network.
Also - if you have suggestions for features you'd like to see included in the Dualis Days celebrations, please leave them for us below and we'll do our best to include them in the mingle log!
To recap!!
- June 17: Dualis Days begins. Much party, big fun, even bigger explosion in the park, followed by a brief and mysterious broadcasted message.
- June 17-23: festivities continue with increased police presence and character-driven investigations into the mysterious message get underway.
- June 23: the last of Dualis Days until next year. Time to sweep up the confetti and get back to work.
- June 24: open network broadcast to discuss what clues were uncovered and what in tarnation is going on in this weird-ass city, led by those who found clues after the broadcast.
Any questions? Ask 'em below. You can also use this post to leave comments for your fellow players for plotting purposes!

Are there stores and buildings close to the platform or would it have happened in a generally large area?
Would there have been a lot of civilian injuries or a huge number of them? (Strategic strike vs. outright terrorism with maximum damage caused).
Are there CCTV type security cameras? If there were, would they have been functioning? (I'm assuming they wouldn't have caught anything either way, but it's the difference between someone that could have deactivated them and someone that could have been noticed).
Are implants and body mods trackable by the authorities?
Out of my own sense of aesthetics can some of the police uniforms look like the ones out of Virtuosity or Demolition Man? I ask for the purpose of Camp.

the park is about 10 acres and the platform is in the center of the park, so no businesses super close.
civilian injuries i'm kinda leaving up to the players. the bombers' intent is a strategic strike against the mayor. whether it actually plays out according to intent is what we'll leave up to y'all.
there are surveillance cameras all over the city, but you are correct - they do not show anything useful, the video is scrambled.
implants/body mods are not tracked by the authorities. HOWEVER. all player characters have been implanted with a microchip for the hand to keep tabs on them. there is absolutely no ic knowledge of this, however - more specifics are in the faq. c:
and yeah, the police uniforms can totally look like that! we're here for maximum fun.
SUGGESTIONS.

PLOT WITH ME c:
She'll be close to the podium when it blows, proooobably not close enough for her to be seriously injured, but I could be convinced otherwise there )depending on what others have planned for that). Basically, I volunteer Cissie as tribute to rush toward the mayhem to help with first aid/triage until, you know. Actual medical personnel/supplies arrive. (And even then, probably.)
